David Sarne, MD, Elected as Treasurer-elect of the
American Thyroid Association
(PHOENIX)—David Sarne, MD, of Chicago, was elected by the membership of the American Thyroid Association (ATA) as Treasurer-elect and a member of the ATA’s Board of Directors for 2006–2007. He will then serve a four-year term as ATA Treasurer from 2007–2011.
Dr. Sarne is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. A member of the ATA since 1984, he has been a member of the ATA Finance Committee since 1998 and its chair since 2001. He previously served on the ATA’s Education, Awards, and Local Organizing Committees.
A graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School at Ann Arbor, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of California at San Francisco and a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Chicago.
“As Treasurer, I intend to build on the foundation that has allowed the ATA to fund initiatives in education, research, and advocacy,” said Dr. Sarne. “I seek to improve our financial stability and increase our endowment and funds to support future programs and initiatives.”The American Thyroid Association is a nonprofit professional medical society composed of physicians and scientists dedicated to enhancing the understanding of thyroid physiology and pathophysiology, improving diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases, and promoting the education of physicians, patients, and the public about thyroid disorders. The ATA’s web site, www.thyroid.org, provides professional and patient resources, such as treatment guidelines, thyroid health brochures in English and Spanish, and access to Friends of the ATA, a patient-oriented service providing access to the latest in thyroid health information.
